Guidelines for Dealing with an Angry Child Back to School Survival Guide for Parents 20 Ways to Foster Values in Children Helping your child cope with school transitions |
Dear Parents, My name is Lauren Inman, and I am the school counselor at Dodd Elementary School. I am available to help you and your child have a successful school year. As a school counselor, I work with parents and students in different ways through a program of many services. Each service is aimed at helping children learn and develop to their highest potential. Some of the services in the school counseling program are: - Groups to help children learn how to study - Individual sessions to help students adjust to school - Classroom lessons to help children learn how to get along with others - Conferences for parents to learn about their children’s progress in school One of the main reasons I am here is for your child. While your child is learning academically in his/her classroom, I will be helping your child practice social skills. This means, among other things, learning how to get along with other children, making good decisions, controlling anger, accepting responsibility, and being aware of their strengths and weaknesses. I know that many of these skills have been taught at home, and it is my goal to reinforce them in order to help your child receive the best education possible. I am also in the building to help children who are facing particular difficulties at school or at home. School difficulties may include conflicts with teachers or friends, not understanding class work, and anything else that may distract your child from learning. Family disruptions such as the birth of a sibling, an illness, death, or divorce may affect your child in school. If your child is experiencing anything that I can help with, please feel free to let me know. Assisting you as the parent is another reason I am here. I can help you with academic and developmental growth questions you might have about your child. If you ever have any concerns about your child, please don’t hesitate to discuss them with me.
Sincerely, Lauren Inman Dodd Elementary School Counselor
