Cooper Junior High opened its doors in August of 2006 with grades 5-7, hosting a Beginner Band and Concert Band. In 2007-2008, Cooper has become a 7-8 grade school, with the 5th and 6th graders going to Draper Intermediate School next door to Cooper. Cooper now hosts a Concert Band and Symphonic Band comprised of 7th and 8th graders, in addition to one 7th grade Beginner Band class.

Draper Intermediate School now hosts the Beginning Band for the Cooper Band and is the only feeder school for Cooper.

The Cooper Patriot Band is proud to be part of the great Wylie tradition of "That Wylie Band" at Wylie HS. Cooper continued that tradition of excellence by receiving the UIL Sweepstakes Award for Concert and Sightreading Contest in 2007 (Concert Band). Cooper also received a first division rating at the Sandy Lake Band Contest (Beginner Band) in 2007.
