Cool Science Pictures

Meet my friend the Boa Constrictor! We met on a trip to Cancun! He lives in an ecopark (these are all over Mexico, especially near tourist areas, and are similar to our zoo.) This particular ecopark is called Xpu-Ha (Esh-Pu-Ha). It was very beautiful and surrouned by lush palm trees. My friend the boa is a young snake (about 4 ft long). He is part of a rehabilitation and breeding program there.

This is a Toucan I met in another ecopark called Xel-Ha (Shel-Ha)! This toucan was very tame and stayed in the tree by the locker rooms and bathrooms. He would fly around and land beside you on the bench. He even ate out of my hand!

This is Bo Jangles, an iguana, who is a fellow teacher's class pet in my old school.  She lets him crawl around the room, and he decided to climb the class skeleton.  In the wild, iguanas like to climb trees and rocks to avoid predators such as wolves, mountain lions, and 5th graders!  So, Bo Jangles was constantly climbing the bookshelves and desks!  He was 3 feet long from nose to tip of tail and very, very cool! :)

These next pictures are from my cousin, Eric, in Bagdad.

He works in Vector Control.

Vector control is the process of eliminating or removing the vectors (which can be mammals, birds, or insects) which can carry viruses and diseases. These animals can either be killed by a pesticide, or caught in a cage and taken away from the town/base. Keeping these animal's numbers under control will help prevent the spread of certain diseases that can make the people and soldiers living there very sick.

THIS IS A FIRE RAINBOW -

THE RAREST OF ALL NATURALLY OCCURRING ATMOSPHERIC PHENOMENA.

THE PICTURE WAS CAPTURED ON THE IDAHO/WASHINGTON BORDER. THE EVENT LASTED ABOUT 1 HOUR.

CLOUDS HAVE TO BE CIRRUS, AT LEAST 20,000 FEET IN THE AIR, WITH JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF ICE CRYSTALS AND THE SUN HAS TO HIT THE CLOUDS AT PRECISELY 58 DEGREES.
