A Note to the Parents

I am so excited to have your child in my class this year!

Fourth grade is a transitional year for students. It is extremely important at this level for the concepts at school be reinforced at home. This will not only help your child succeed and you become more aware of his/her strengths and weaknesses, but also help them be better equipped for the Reading, Writing, and Math TAKS test. (This will be the first year that students take the Writing TAKS test.)

What do you need to know?

•  Answers to multiplication (as well as addition and subtraction) facts should be given in 3 seconds or less. Students should know the facts 0-12.

•  Fluency and comprehension is important! After reading with your child discuss what was read with them. This gives your child a chance to reflect upon the story. Possible questions are:

•  What was your favorite part? Why?

•  What do you think will happen next? Why?

•  Who is your favorite character? Why?

•  Why do you think ____ happened? Why do you think that?
