WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!

This is a math strategy used by third and fourth grade teachers. It's designed to help students focus on math word problems so they can correctly answer the questions!

Really Quiet Fish Swim Around is the sentence that helps students remember their strategies. It stands for:

R-Read; Read the story problem.

Q-Question; Find the question in the problem. Underline it and circle key words (sum, difference, in all, altogether, etc.)

F-Facts; Find the facts in the problem. Circle the numbers and box the labels.

S-Solution; Reread the problem. Decide on a reasonable way to solve it - add, subtract, multiply, divide, draw a picture, etc.

A-Answer the question. Make sure the answer makes sense!
