Science

Our bundle for the last three weeks was researching inventions and the people who invented them. The students will be turning in their research projects on Friday, May 16 and present it to the class in a 2-4 minute presentation. The students will be allowed to present their research in any format they choose. All projects will  be accompanied by a report. For directions, rubric, or check off list, click on the links.

Our next bundle, and last one, yes, we are on the last one….yeah!! That means science will soon come to an end. That doesn't mean you should forget about it. Experiment at home, be a scientist and tell me what you experimented with next year! Watch the Discovery channel and tell me what you learned over the summer.

Now back on task, (I do that a lot!) our new bundle will end with a bang! Literally. We will approach many new experiments using the scientific method to make sure you have not forgotten the steps in the process. We will experiment with volume, mass, temperature, sound, matter, etc., and many other things, then record them on graphs, tables, maps, and charts. You will research, analyze, and compare experiments so you can answer the most important scientific question: How does the scientific method promote scientific and logical thinking?

Text Box: Advanced Math 5

The last bundle we worked on was whole numbers, decimals and the good ole adding and subtracting, multiplying and dividing of whole numbers. We will review adding and subtracting decimals and dig in to a little sixth grade multiplication of decimals. The students are working on a new problem called, The Locker problem. It has been keeping them busy for a week now, and will be due this coming Friday, May 14th, so make sure and get it done on time. The extra credit for Mosler is the follow-up for the locker problem, on the back.

The advanced part of fifth grade, (AMath5) will continue throughout the year with some introduction to the sixth grade curriculum. We’ve taken a look at circumference and will touch base on a little pre-Algebra, just touching base! We will have all the square numbers down from 1-25 and be able to connect them with their counterpart, the square root. Don’t’ forget your calculators for the rest of the year!!

You can continue to play some games online, click on Math and scroll down to the area you are struggling with and practice, practice and practice. And when you’re done, practice again!! There is a ton of work on this website. It will even take you to some Algebra. You never know, I may just use some of the work on your AMath5 exit exam!

Mr. Boatman’s extra credit was due on Friday, May 9th, now you have to wait for the next one!!

Text Box: Are You Ready To Be A 6th Grader?
Mr. Boatman has given my Advanced Math 5 students an opportunity to earn extra credit in math, yes, extra credit! The problem of the week will be outside our door, so give it a try! No excuse to improve your grade! It seems like some are not ready to be a sixth grader. We have a small list!

TAKS Test are over!!!

No more talk about TAKS until next year!!

Now we are ready to finish off the year with new information that will make your brains work even harder!!

TAKS scores will be here soon. As soon as we get them, we will send them home.

We have to wait on the shaved head until scores come back and our school is rated.

Text Box: Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?
If each of you write one question on any subject, and send it in to the show, we could win a computer lab! That’s right, if one of our questions is picked on the show, they will give our school a computer lab! So start submitting your questions, good, hard, H.O.T. questions.
Go online to write your question. Don’t forget to watch every Thursday at 7pm on FOX to see if your question was chosen on the show.

Passing Rate for TAKS

 90% passing rate on reading

92% passing rate on math

??? passing rate on science
