Grading Policy

Your child's graded papers come home every Friday. They will be the papers from the previous week. Below is the revised grading system to help you understand your child's grade.

Major Grades 40% (3-4 per six weeks)
Daily Grades 60% (8-10 per six weeks)

Students will be allowed to make up two (2) daily assignments per content area per six weeks.

If an assignment is missing, an "I" (Incomplete) will be put into the grade book. Students are required to finish the assignment and turn it in.

A penalty of -2 points per day will be taken for each day late.
When you see a grade with a decimal, that indicates the number of days the assignment was late.
Example:
original grade - 90
one day late - 88.1
two days late - 86.2
three days late - 84.3
four days late - 82.4, etc.

A homework lunch will be assigned for students needing to complete assignments. If a student is missing morning work, homework lunch will be assigned for the same day.

Staying after school may also be required.

ALL WORK GIVEN WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE TURNED IN. IF YOU CHILD NEEDS TO STAY AFTER SCHOOL, I WILL INFORM YOU VIA EMAIL, WITH A NOTE, PHONE CALL, OR ALL OF THE ABOVE.

THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS FOR NOT TURNING IN CLASS WORK AND/OR HOMEWORK.

Checking Grades Online

When checking your child's grades in the grade book, please keep in mind that your child is not missing anything unless I have entered an "I" (incomplete) in the grade book. An asterisk simply means the assignment is entered, but the grade has not been entered. It may say missing, but it is not missing unless I enter an "I" for incomplete.

If your child has missing assignments, ask them first why it is missing, they should be able to tell you.

Skyward automatically alerts parents of missing assignments when the "due date" on the assignment has passed, that does not mean your child is missing it, it just means the due date has passed. I try to enter grades once a week, but often have make up and evening school work to grade and record. Your child will know of missing work every Thursday, that's when I officially have all assignments checked off, unless it is something due on a Friday. You need to be concerned when your child has an "I" in the grade book.

EVENING SCHOOL

Students can be placed in evening school for three purposes: (1) to make up zeroes, (2) disciplinary purposes assigned by an administrator, or (3) attendance.

Evening school hours are 3:00-6:00 on Friday night, Thursday the last week of the six weeks.
Students are expected to attend the full three hours.
