7th Grade Concepts

What causes seasons and changes in length of day? Why do we see phases of the Moon? How do these things affect us? Students will identify, illustrate and relate Earth’s place in the solar system and its movement, hemispheres, seasons, tides, length of daylight, rotation, revolution, phases of the moon, solar eclipses, and lunar eclipses.

Natural events and human activity can alter Earth systems. Students will analyze, describe, predict, make inferences and draw conclusions while studying the effects of erosion, weathering (chemical and mechanical), volcanic eruptions and other Catastrophic events and maintaining equilibrium.

November 16 — November 20 (week 13)

Monday: ELA reading and writing benchmark. Review most missed on test.

Tuesday: Quick review for CBA. Take CBA  #4.

Wednesday: Make Earth models. These will be a major grade!

Thursday: Color Earth Continents.

Friday: Assemble Earths.

November 23 — November 29: No School

November 30 — December 4 (week 14)

Monday: Web Quest in preparation for Tilt 2012 Pre-AP assignment.

Tuesday: Seasons Notes and modeling. Discuss Tilt 2012.

Wednesday: More seasons modeling. Begin Moon notes. Discuss Tilt 2012.

Thursday: Moon notes and modeling. Discuss Tilt 2012.

Friday: Eclipse notes and modeling. Discuss Tilt 2012.

December 7 — December 11 (week 15)

Monday: Complete eclipse notes.

Tuesday: Seasons, Moon phases, and Eclipse modeling.

Wednesday: Work on Tilt 2012. Seasons Quiz. Hand out Test Review.

Thursday: Complete Tilt 2012.  Review answers.

Friday: Tilt 2012 Presentations. Test over seasons, moon phases and eclipses.

December 14 — December 18 (week 16)

Monday: Review most missed on test. Study Island Science.

Tuesday: Review Most Missed. CBA #5. Weathering notes.

Wednesday: Weathering and erosion lab.

January 11 — January 15 (week 18)

Monday: Assign Rock to Soil writing assignment, major grade, culminates weather, erosion, deposition and catastrophic events bundle.

Tuesday: Continue Rock to Soil. Receive semester review.

Wednesday: Rock to Soil due beginning of class Thursday, review due Thursday.

Thursday: CBA #6. Receive answers to semester exam review.

Friday: Science semester exam.
