          About Mrs. Jennings

Family

I have been married for 15 years to my husband, Bill. We live in Wylie with our three lively children: Alyssa- 12, Madison-10, and Tommy-7.  We also share our home with numerous pets, including: dogs, a cat, a leopard gecko, sugar gliders, rabbits and fish.

Experience

I have taught in Wylie for the last 5 years.  Before that, I was an 8th grade English teacher in Indiana, and a 7th and 8th grader reading improvement and English teacher in Houston.

Education

I was graduated from The University of North Texas in 1992, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies for grades 1-8,  with a specialization in Reading and English.

Why GT?

My interest in the education of GT children stems from having three of my own at home.  I moved from eighth grade English teacher to  a third grade teacher the same year my oldest daughter was in third grade, I quickly realized that she wasn't like all of the other kids.  I knew she had been identified as gifted, but I just thought that meant she was smart.  I didn't understand all the other things that came with the package. I knew I had to find out more about my daughter, so I went to parent seminars as well as GT training through the district.  I learned so much about the gifted child's needs that helped me to help her grow.

The gifted child is not "easy" to teach, like many people may think.  They can challenge the most seasoned teacher on a daily basis.  Teachers of the gifted must be trained so that they can accept the challenge. The gifted child is in need of so much more than many people realize.  They must be challenged or they will not grow as they are intended to.

My desire for your children, is to direct them to become independent learners and to give them the necessary tools to investigate the world around them in the way that is best for them.

I am a proud member of TAGT, Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented.  This organization is comprised of a group of parents and educators who are dedicated to meeting the unique needs of the gifted and talented children in their lives.  Click on the link to find out how you can join me as our children's strongest advocates.
