"Setting the Stage for Success!!"

Dear Parents,

I am so exited to have your child in my classroom this year. Second grade is a wonderful year for students and their teacher. This letter is to advise you of important information that you and your child will need to know to begin the school year successfully. This is a lot of information so please let me know if you have any further questions. J

    • Transportation- It is important that the school is aware of how your child will get home every day. Their safety is of utmost importance to the entire staff at Tibbals Elementary. I must receive a letter, email, or phone call from the school office if there is a change from the way that your child usually gets home from school. If you plan to contact me by email or phone please do so as early as possible. Also, if you send a note, please put this in his or her take home folder that will be returned daily. Thank you for your cooperation!

    • Homework- All second grade students receive homework each week. Generally, it will be assigned on Monday and will be located in their homework folder that they bring home. Homework is due on Friday and should be returned in their homework folder. Homework will consist of spelling work activities, math activities, language arts/writing activities, and 15 minutes of reading every night. Leveled books will be sent home after TPRI is given.

    • Newsletter- I will send home a weekly newsletter on Mondays that will inform you of what your child will be learning for the week, celebrations, up-coming events, and other classroom information. I will also have this information available through our class website.

    • Spelling- Each Monday your child will bring home the weekly spelling words that need to be studied in their homework folder. The spelling test will be every Friday. Please ensure that your child is prepared for this weekly test. I will also update our spelling words weekly on our class website incase the words are misplaced.

    • Behavior Folder- In addition, each day your child will bring home their behavior folder for you to review and sign. Please make sure that your child’s behavior folder is returned daily. See the additional sheet attached (given with the hard copy) for conduct and positive reinforcements given in our class.

    • Snack-This year our lunch will not take place until 12:00. Therefore, we will be having a snack each day at 9:00 to alleviate the long wait until lunch. Please send a small, healthy snack with your child each day.

    • Grading- Your child will receive a number grade on all their work. Below a 70 is failing. If your child makes below a 70 on daily work, the information will be re-taught to them and they will have the opportunity to redo the assignment for a 70. Your child will have the opportunity to redo all failing assignments, except for tests.

    • Conferencing- I am available during my conference time from 10:00-10:55am or after school. If you would like to schedule a conference please call me at school 972-429-2520 ext. 6390, send a note, or email.

  • You will notice when you walk to our doorway on Meet the Teacher Night that we have a movie/Hollywood class theme to start off the year by "Setting the the Stage for Success!!" With that being said, my goal if for EVERY ONE of my students to excel in all learning areas through their experiences, academics, relationships and much more! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or suggestions for your child.

I look forward to an unbelievable year with you and your child! If you should ever have any questions or concerns, PLEASE feel free to contact me by email, phone, or letter.
