What is Alpha Phonics?
Alpha Phonics is a multisensory, sequential curriculum, based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, designed for students identified as dyslexic or at risk for dyslexia. The curriculum is based on research from Texas Scottish Rite Hospital of Dallas.
What is Dyslexia?
According to the Texas Education Agency, dyslexia is:
" a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling abilities. These difficulties result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities."
Students are identified for placement through a screening and testing process.
